    This century old book is still as gripping as you want a real good horror story to be. The form in which it is written - diaries, letters and accounts by the main characters - is not used nowadays and makes for some slowing in speed, especially in the middle part of the book. Let's say: a little rest after the thrilling narrative of the events in Dracula's Transsylvanian castle, and some rest before the story picks up speed towards a whirlwind end. The language may be a bit oldfashioned, the good ladies dainty and saintly (the bad extremely beautiful and 'voloptuous'), the men true and brave, and throughout a strong belief in the Christian cures against vampires but that shouldn't keep you from reading this true classic. At first I couldn't imagine a book this size would be a read-on. It took me three days and I enjoyed every minute I spent reading it. As a modern day reader you will not be dissapointed, so give it a try. But perhaps better not when you're on holiday in the Eastern European mountains!
